Last week, or was it the week before now? Yes, the week before last, that’s it!
Ok, so 2 weeks ago, I moved up to sole source plus on the Cambridge Weight Plan, meanging I could liven up my diet of 3-4 products a day to include 200ml of skimmed milk or one small 200cal meal a day - that’s a very small meal. This has definately made it more interesting, but portion control is really hard, as is making something is more interesting to eat than one of the soups using only what’s on the [very short] list of foods you can have. I’ve put the list below so you can have a look.
If someone has a brilliant recipe for a 200 cal meal, I emplore you to email it to me, because it’s something I really struggle with! I would like to put a few up here so others can use them too, I promise you would get all the credit.
80g total (uncooked weight)
Kale or Cabbage (even pickled)
Lettuce/Green salad leaves
170 g Chicken or turkey (skinless)
230 g Cod haddock or other white fish
250 g Steamed Tofu
200 g Quorn eg mince, pieces
180 g Tinned tuna (in water)
230 g Prawns
225 g Cottage cheese, plain, (less than 2% fat)
2 large eggs
All the weights are UNCOOKED weights. When cooking, do so in a healthy way, eg: steam your vegetables. You can add herbs and spices such as curry or chilli powder, coriander, pepper, chives and parsley, but don’t add salt to your SS+ meal.
As you can see, it’s not a very long list, and to be honest the hardest part for me is sticking to only 80g of vegetables. I LOVE vegetables, odd but true. Also, Bacon. I WANT SMOKED BACON! Why isn’t that on the list?! Why isn’t there any red meat on the list, come to that? Vennison is so lean, there is surely no reason for that not to be there? Also, what the hell is wrong with tomatoes? Alright, they’re a fruit, not a vegetable, but they aren’t a sweet fruit, there isn’t as much sugar in a tomato as in other fruits.
I have eaten bacon AND tomatoes. I made cooked breakfast yesterday, and last week come to that, and it was wonderful.
1 rasher of bacon, dry fried then fat removed
1 medium egg fried with the bacon
40g cherry toms fried whole with the bacon & egg
40g mushrooms cooked with a splash of worcester sauce, also fried with bacon & egg
(I don’t like washing up!)
It was beautiful both times. It’s my Sunday treat. Now, other than a slightly higer than average salt content (I added none, but I guess there is some in the bacon), which I compensated for by drinking extra water, can you tell me what on earth is wrong with that as a meal?
Ohohoh, nearly forgot, if you want to email me recipes, my email address is: Prickly.Emu@gmail.com
I am starting this diet week (my weigh-in is a Tuesday night, so I feel my week starts on a Wednesday) with renewed vigor. I have been rather lax in following the Cambridge Weight Plan these last 2 weeks, I have still managed to loose 6lbs, but frankly, that’s not really good enough for me. I have lost a total of 20lbs in 4 weeks, a brilliant start, but I need the rest of this load shifted quick-smart, that’s why I chose to follow a VLCD in the first place.
So I have had a little word with myself (I do that a lot), and am determined to attack the pounds with avengance - I have been very good so far today – not as easy as it sounds when you work for Cadbury & you’re surrounded by chocolate (that you can EAT) all the time…it’s even in the air! Tomorrow I am going to have lunch at my desk, leave work a bit early and go swimming (I already swim once a week), and I am thinking of joining my (size 10) mum at her yoga class on Monday, provided I’m not too tired.
I have now moved onto sole-source plus, which is alleviating the boredom, but I know I need to be more careful with my portion control. This week is going to be a good week, I can feel it, I’m already feeling more positive than I have for ages! Oh, and look, here are pictures, of me at the start and last night, I wore the same outfit, to make comparison easier, hope you can see the difference!
I have been a bit quiet of late, sorry about that, though it’s only because I have nothing especially exciting to report. Last week was mostly about plodding along through The Diet, and trying not to slip up too much along the way. I have been battling some virus or other, which has made me feel, well exhausted mostly, and in turn it has made sticking to plan a little bit tougher, but I haven’t been too naughty, I don’t think, and unless my scales at home have learned to lie to me, then my slip-ups haven’t been too detrimental.
I have found I have been having to have a quiet word with myself quite often this week. I know what the problem is, boredom. I eat when I am bored, I always have, it’s one of the many waist-expanding habits that I want to break, because there is absolutely no point to it. I moved up to Sole Source Plus at my last weigh in, to try to alleviate some of the boredom of Sole Source.
I managed to go out to dinner with one of my best friends on Friday evening, though I don’t think she is my friend any more, but that’s another story. So dinner out wasn’t too big a deal, we went to Nando’s and I had a chicken ceasar salad. I must admit to having eaten the salad dressing, and the croutons, and the grated cheese… but there were only 5 croutons, and it wasn’t drowned in dressing or cheese, so I don’t think it was totally diet ruining, in fact having just checked, it weighed in at 290 cals,so not too bad. I only had 2 products during the day, so I think I balance out.
I only had a little loss last week of 3.5lbs, and I would quite like this weeks to be a bit more, but am not holding my breath, it was bound to slow down, all diets start big and then drop off. Also moving to SS+, i have increased my calorie intake by about 200cals per day, as I had previously managed to cut down to just 3 products a day from 4 (at 5’8″, i was right on the cusp of 3/4 products a day).
Anyway, tonight, in my bid to change my whole life and not just my dress size, I am going to have my first session of Hypnotherapy. I don’t really know how I feel about it, I have quite an open mind – all the girls in my family are interested in alternative therapies, my aunt is actually a registered Reflexologist & Bowen therapist and my mum, who’s a nurse by profession, has trained in massage and reflexology. I have grown up with alternative therapies in my life, and have benefited from them greatly, so I am pretty willing to try anything that might help. I am a little bit nervous about giving over control to someone else, but I have spoken to Maggie, the hypnotherapist on the phone, and she seems very down to earth, she was also recommended by a friend, so what the heck, I’m going to have a go. It isn’t cheap (£75 a session!) but I think I am worth that much, and it may make all the difference.
I will of course let you know what happens, this might even be a 2-post day!
